THE ENTRY
Woodstock began on August 15, 1969, on Max Yasgur’s farm near Bethel, New York. Enormous crowds, difficult conditions, and landmark performances transformed the event into a cultural symbol far larger than its original business plan.
WHY IT MATTERED
Woodstock helped define the modern mythology of the music festival: temporary city, generational statement, media event, commercial risk, and historical memory.
